Kindergarten and Fashion 101

No, I didn't cry as a first-time Kindergarten mother and neither did Daradie. I dropped her off at school and could barely keep up with her to her class. She walked right in and hung her backpack up like she was a natural. I poked my head in and told her to have fun and that was that. On the way home she said, "Mom, I never knew school could be so fun!" Which is why her 8 o'clock wake up times have now changed to 6 A.M. I think she is plain excited and thrilled to see what the next day offers her. This morning, 5:45. Her kindergarten teacher will be getting a phone call from me if she continues to instill so much fun and curiousity into my daughter--people need some sleep around here!

The bus system is really good here. First, no one is allowed on the bus unless they have their name on the roll and a sticker on their shirt from their teacher. They have to sit in assigned seating as well. (I gotta tell ya how good Dan is. He left for a job, about 45 minutes away, early in the morning before they even woke up. He drove back, just in time at the bus stop to send Daradie off with a quick hug for her first day of school. Then drove back to the job. Kiddos are lucky to have a Dad like that.)

When talking about kindergarten and Daradie, you can't not talk about fashion.

Her first day of school: flowered dress/shirt (I know, I'm really lacking in fashion since I don't even know what to call it) and polka-dot pants.

Day four: black cowgirl boots, pink and green skirt, red t-shirt, and a teal tank top with a navy blue plaid headband.

As a mother, should I put some guidelines on her clothes? See, this is where I'm coming from... we lay Daradie's clothes out the night before including any accessories. She's dressed and ready in whatever she picks out. We are ready to walk to the bus stop. What? Where are my children who were right behind me at the door? Quickly glancing at my watch trying to determine if we'll make it to the bus on time, I run back in. Daradie is accessorizing Koen for the walk to the bus. Example, one day Koen is wearing Batman sunglasses, bright orange hunter hat, and a Cookie Monster backpack. Another day he is wearing the infamous black cowboy boots and his teamster hat from Nauvoo. If you were my neighbor, you'd hear me yell every other day, "Koen, keep up or I'm leaving you behind. I got to get Daradie to the bus!" while I'm dragging Daradie by the hand questioning why she can't wear regular shoes to school and forget about the brooch--run faster! And really, you'd think we wouldn't be doing this since she wakes up before the roosters.
