Big Kid Bikers

Daradie was so excited to learn how to ride a bike. She never even used training wheels! It took her two days to grasp the concept. Her struggles: trying not to run over rolly-polly bugs, looking behind for me, and trees at every corner. But after a little bit of practice she does great! We had to get her a "real" full sized bike--she was just too big for the bikes with training wheels. We tried talking her into buying a basic blue or red or black (due to Koen's "new bike" in a year or two) but she wanted a pink and purple bike with streamers.
Koen learned how to ride a bike the SECOND he got on it. No training wheels and no help. He was seriously born with extreme balance. He didn't need help turning corners or even using his brakes. After three days of riding his bike: jumps skateboard ramps on the sidewalk, sticks legs out to sides, stands up, and leans so far into his turns that I can't help think he's going to be an awesome slalom skier. Mind you he is 3 1/2 years old.
Both kids were in a bike race the other day (a ward family 5k fun run, bike, etc.). They both were troopers at the full 3 miles. Koen even did a practice run with Dan before the actual race began. He was so excited that he couldn't stop talking about it for hours before and after. Daradie had a harder time--she was getting bored of just riding her bike for so long. They both finished just under 30 minutes.

So cute! Zack learned a couple of years back but has maybe ridden his bike 3 times. He totally prefers his scooter. And Bryce won't even get on a bike. Nice.

Good job, Daradie!! (Hint: when Daradie is done with the bike, spray paint in black, then pull it our for Koen... he'll never know!!)
